About us

Escaping2Earth is our little corner of the internet where we (Marlene & Tom) share the places that make us curious, happy, or simply leave us amazed. We are not travel professionals, not extreme adventurers, and definitely not people who have "perfected" traveling. We are just two people, working in our everyday jobs, who love being on the road and want to understand more than just the way to the beach. That is why we do not just write about hotel tips and photo spots. We are interested in a country's history, political context, and social topics that travelers should not ignore. Not because we are experts, but because we believe travel is more rewarding when you actually understand where you are.

Our goal is simple: visit every country with an ISO code, without being full-time travelers. That will probably take a while, but the journey is the destination, as they say. Since our first trip together to the Seychelles in 2021, we have traveled across four continents. Sometimes in comfort, sometimes with a flat tire in the desert, sometimes seasick on a ferry.

Escaping2Earth is meant to be less of a checklist of visited countries and more of an invitation to discover with us what makes each place special. The beautiful sides, but also the complicated ones. The beaches, but also the history behind them.

The Nerdy Adventurer

Tom naturally ends up being the one who handles navigation, and he stays unflustered even when plans shift at the last minute. He has a real instinct for exploration, drawn to new places simply out of curiosity, without needing a reason beyond the pull of the unknown. A spontaneous detour or an unplanned stop often turns into the highlight of the journey. That open, adventurous mindset quickly rubs off on everyone around him and sets the tone for the trip. He is also the go-to person for anything technical. Tom genuinely enjoys researching, choosing, and testing new filming gear, and he is constantly fine-tuning the setup while traveling. He experiments with settings, adjusts to changing conditions, and refines his approach along the way. His goal is not just to capture good footage, but to preserve the feeling of being there, so that when those moments are revisited later, they still carry the same intensity, atmosphere, and sense of presence as they did in real life.

The Organization Enthusiast

Marlene genuinely enjoys packing. If it were up to her, she’d have the bags ready months before the next adventure simply because she loves planning and getting everything set. Most of the time, she doesn’t just pack her own suitcase, she ends up packing Tom’s too, since she actually enjoys it far more than he does. Once they’re on the road, though, she’s surprisingly spontaneous: together with Tom, she’ll happily ditch a carefully planned itinerary the moment something better comes up or they stumble upon a place they hadn’t even had on their radar.

From where do you get your maps?

All maps you see here on escaping2earth are handmade by us. The data to fill in out maps are from multiple different sources, such as naturalearth.org, the World Health Organization, or NASA.

About you

How long have you been a couple?

We have been a couple since 2020, when traveling was nearly impossible. In March 2025, we got married on the beautiful island of Bora Bora.
