It is a place with a complex history, a living Polynesian culture, and landscapes that range from lush rainforests to barren lava fields within a single island. The famous Aloha spirit is real: a warmth and openness that makes visitors feel welcome from the first moment. Whether you come for the beaches, the hiking, the wildlife, or simply the laid-back island vibe, Hawaii delivers an experience that keeps pulling people back.

Hawaii holds a special place in Tom's travel history. He first visited in 2008 and has returned three more times since: 2012, 2016, and 2019. Now, in 2026, he finally gets to share these islands with Marlene on her very first Hawaiian adventure.

Our trip will take us to Oahu and the Big Island, two islands that could not be more different. Oahu offers the vibrant energy of Honolulu, iconic Waikiki Beach, and the historical weight of Pearl Harbor. The Big Island is a world of contrasts: black lava fields, snow-capped peaks, coffee plantations, and the raw power of Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth.

We are hoping to witness the volcanic glow at night, swim with sea turtles, and if timing is on our side, spot humpback whales on their annual migration. For Tom, this trip is about rediscovering familiar places through fresh eyes. For Marlene, it is a first encounter with a destination that has been on the list for years.
